TIPS FOR INCORPORATING PROPHETIC WORSHIP INTO SUNDAY MORNING! by Keith Luker www.PropheticWorshipRadio.net I was raised in a very very very very conservative background, Church of Christ. My father and grandfather were pastors in the church of Christ as is my wife's dad. So no one is more conservative in background than me! Therefore I understand the thinking and HOW to help people come across the bridge into the Spirit. We have led thousands of church of Christ people into a full charismatic theology and experience by the grace of God.Just a little bio on me :)I lead worship at Sunday services in ALL KINDS of churches from Church of Christ to the wildest charismatic churches. Even a church that I led 1-2 times a month for 12 years was "low voltage light charismatic", believed in the gifts but was VERY VERY programmed in their Sunday services.I encourage worship leaders to take whatever time you are given, whether it be 20 minutes or 75 minutes for worship, and pack into it the most intense spirit led worship that you can. For Sanna and I, God seems to have given us the ability to draw the entire crowd INTO the spontaneous worship even if they have never seen it. Many worship leaders who try to do the spontaneous, just take off and leave the congregation sitting there watching! This is not good leadership. We must LEAD the people into what God wants to do in any given service. The authenticity of the spontaneous worship and songs is that our HEARTS are connecting at a deeper level in a two-way conversation with God DURING the worship time. This is VERY ATTRACTIVE to even a novice or an evangelical. It is interesting to them and they innately WANT to participate. So as worship leaders we help them and draw them in.How? Keep the spontaneous songs short and repeat them over and over, and on the mic gently invite the congregation to sing the refrain with you. Then don't OVER DO IT, perhaps move on to the next part, and sing that over and over, until each little spontaneous song-let is a NEW SONG that the congregation is singing together. This can be electric! when several hundred people are suddenly singing the songs of heaven! Also it is very helpful for the Senior Pastor to teach on the subject of worship and include the very very biblical SING A NEW SONG in the teachings, so that the people have a framework for it.Personally I believe that worship in the church all over the world is heading toward more and more spontaneous expression, because it is so interactive and in the moment with God and not canned. By the way, I use KNOWN songs to launch off into the spontaneous FROM. This is a natural. Pick a song with an easy singable chord progression like "here i am to worship" and then leave room musically and lyrically for those spontaneous moments for the singers to SING and those moments will become the highlight of worship! We have also done smaller "clinics" where we invite people who want to learn to worship this way to a special time. Then we just teach on the bibilical framework for it, and then we PRACTICE it, by taking a really easy psalm, have everybody open their bible to it, and each person in the circle take a verse and SING it while the guitar or band just keep playing the same chord progression over and over. We model it first, and show them how to sing and how to change the words a little bit to fit the meter of what they want to sing, then we turn them loose to do it. It is without fail the most exciting thing they have ever done, and after the clinic we encourage them to do it at home and in their groups.IT grows from there.Someday, the worship team will show up with no song list and the Holy Spirit will give the music and the songs spontaneously! This is where we are going. Did you know that the word for praise in Hebrew, Tehillah, is the word used in the very famous "God inhabits the praises of His people (Israel)" That words means the SPONTANEOUS SONG! God inhabits (or is enthroned) on the SPONTANEOUS PRAISES of His people! Amen!love, Keith Luker www.PropheticWorshipRadio.net
