Biography Out of Memphis, TN has come an imaginative new group that has begun to make its mark on the music world. Instead of the staple two turntables and a microphone, CAYERIO has blended elements of hip-hop, rock, R&B and soul into one cohesive and melodic sound as a five-piece band. Often touring with indie rock and pop-punk bands, the indie hip hop band doesn’t fit comfortable into any one music genre; their music is rooted in the traditions of Hip-Hop, but feature live instruments and musicians instead of tracks and basic drum beats. With a style that appeals to many different musical ears, CAYERIO'S live shows are among the best in the business. Building on the Roots “hip-hop band” philosophy CAYERIO focus’ on live instrumentation at their concerts and in the studio. Formed 2 years ago in Memphis, CAYERIO redefine hip-hop from the South, combining Roots with POD and Run DMC with Red Hot Chili Peppers. CAYERIO”S focus on live music began when solo artist Cee (Corey Sanders) spoke with keyboard player Kaptain Kirk (Kirk Smith), who knew each other from hanging out a local hip hop show, about putting together a live band. After releasing a solo album in 2005, Cee wanted to do something different with his music so he and Kaptain Kirk hooked up with bassist “the English” (Ben Cumming) and guitist Rockshow (Chris Isaac) from a local music and arts college called Visible School and start a band. They began playing together and recorded an EP entitled “Music and Cornbread” in 2007 to sale at local shows. Each member offers a variety of influences ranging from The Roots and A Tribe Called Quest to Mute Math and Poppa Roach. Collectively, the group has worked with Christian music moguls such as Nicole C. Mullen, David "tha Monsta" Lynch, Curtis "CZ" Zachary, Andy Shelby, David Mullen, Christopher Tyler, and Ken Steorts (formerly of Skillet) just to name a few. The band introduced a new sound to a heavily bass driven "krunk style rap" scene. And while some find the pairing of hip-hop and rock odd, the masses instantly fall in love finding the sound refreshing and engaging. The energy displayed on their EP release, Music and Cornbread, is invigorating. With tracks like So Cold and Cups Up, listeners have the luxury of street poetry dropped over beats with hardcore funk-rock edge. "We are motivated to create music that is not only spiritually fulfilling, but also socially and culturally beneficial. The message is an aggressive lyrical communication to popular culture. We are effectively addressing issues with truth, providing an alternative to the prevalent messages of crime, money and sex," expresses CAYERIO; "This band serves as a remedy to those who are inundated with the lack of substance seen in both the rock and hip-hop culture." CAYERIO has a vision to reignite everything that is good about the genre of Hip-Hop and fuse it with truth. Their positive declaration of faith, love, hope, and joy is a message that young audiences need to hear more now than ever. Because of this passion, CAYERIO is set apart from the negative backlash of Hip-Hop and pushes forward to be the light of the world sharing the Kingdom of God to a starving generation. CAYERIO is more than a sound. They are a movement. |
