“This Is The Day of Enosh, The Day of Calling Out To Yahweh”
By Nic Billman
New Birth and The Days of Enosh
This morning the Lord woke me up when I heard Him say “This is the day of Enosh”, and in a very knowledgeable, very eloquent manner, I said “who?” So I looked up Enosh and found that he was the son of Seth, who was the third Son of Adam and Eve. Seth was the son who was born to Adam and Eve after Cain killed Able and fled to the land of Nod. Seth brought about a certain element of healing to Adam, since he had essentially lost both of his sons, and we’re told in Genesis 5:3 that Seth was in Adam’s “own likeness and after his image”. Much like Adam was created in God’s own likeness and image.
Seth was born to Adam when he was 130 years old, and when Seth was 105 years old, he also had a son, and his name was Enosh (Enos in Greek).
“And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed”. And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.”
Genesis 4:25-26 (NKJV) New Birth and The Days of Enosh
This morning the Lord woke me up when I heard Him say “This is the day of Enosh”, and in a very knowledgeable, very eloquent manner, I said “who?” So I looked up Enosh and found that he was the son of Seth, who was the third Son of Adam and Eve. Seth brought about a certain element of healing to Adam, since he had essentially lost both of his sons, and we’re told in Genesis 5:3 that Seth was in Adam’s “own likeness and after his image”. “And Adam knew his wife again, and she bore a son and named him Seth, “For God has appointed another seed for me instead of Abel, whom Cain killed”. And as for Seth, to him also a son was born; and he named him Enosh. Then men began to call on the name of the Lord.”
Genesis 4:25-26 (NKJV)
The caption in my bible above this section of scripture says “A New Son”, and it really struck me when I first read this, there was a birthing and the newness of life and then men began to call on the name of the Lord. The word for Lord that was used there is Yahweh (יהוה), which is the personal name of God.
Now, let’s take it back in time about 200 years or so, God had a deep intimate relationship with Adam and Eve, he walked with them in the cool of the day (Genesis 3:8). It could be said that He walked with them, and He talked with them and He claimed them as His own! Then the fall happened and there was a barrier that was set up between them and God, not just because of their sin, but their desire to cover it up. All of the sudden the intimacy and honesty of their relationship was rocked in one foul swoop of disobedience and dishonesty.
So there’s Adam and Eve, trying to recover from their sins and get on with living, they’re raising two boys, Cain and Abel, and things seem to be going okay, with the exception of the whole “physical labor and birthing pains” thing. Then, along comes the devil’s sidekicks, Jealousy and Rage, and Cain kills his brother and then is cast out of Eden, where his parents had been cast out of the Garden, and he goes to the land of Nod to start his family.
Around every corner there was trouble and the devil was seemingly claiming the victory in most of the battles. But then, along came new birth, Seth was born, and his birth brought about restoration to Adam and Eve, restoring what was taken from them with the murder of Abel. Then Seth has his son, Enosh, again, new birth, and then we enter into the days of calling on Yahweh, crying out to our God, or my God, instead of just “The God”. If you read the genealogy of Jesus Christ in Luke 3, you will find Enosh in verse 38. Enosh is in the direct line of King David and with Jesus Christ, isn’t it amazing what God can do with new life! You see, all the devil can do is steal, kill and destroy, but God restores, resurrects and creates, and the new life that God creates is not just life, but life more abundant (John 10:10). When the world seems full of theft, death and destruction, those are not the times to simply cry, but the times to cry out to our God.
Seeking His Face and Calling On His Name
Certainly the people called out to God in between the fall and the birth of Enosh, but it was most likely with names like El-Shaddai (אל שדי) or Elohim (אלהים), which both translate as “God Almighty”. This is really no different then in our current day when we have a situation like September 11th and all of the United States cries out to “The God”, seeking action and redemption. But many of those people were not crying out to “their God”. It wasn’t a “seeking of His face”, it was a “seeking of His hand”. But as we see so often in the scriptures, it’s when we seek the face of God, that we find the hand of God.
God is crying out for this generation to rise up and be the “Jacob Generation” that David mentions in Psalm 24, the generation that seeks His face. The Generation that has a desire to see and know God. God is saying “Rise up, your light has come and my Glory WILL rise on you” (Isaiah 60:1). The Lord is calling out for a new season of “Enosh”, there has been a new birth in the Spirit and it’s time to call out to Yahweh, calling out to our God. It’s through this calling out that the Glory of God will be revealed in the world, not just in conferences and revival meetings.
“When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.”
2 Chronicles 7:13-15
For The Church as a whole, this is a very dry season, and it feels like the dry and weary land where there is no water (Psalm 63:1). But, did you catch the key in that scripture? Intimacy! If we will turn from our wicked ways (and our natural understanding, Proverbs 3:5) and seek His face in prayer and worship, then He will hear from heaven and forgive our sins and heal our land. What does your land look like today? Is there pain? Is there death? Are there addictions to things like drugs, alcohol and pornography? Is there such a sense or worthlessness that people are starving themselves and cutting themselves? Are there orphans and unloved children? We live in a world infested with devouring locusts and deadly diseases, but God gives us instructions to follow in these conditions. We quote it all the time, but I wonder what will happen when we really start to do it and live it,
It Takes Action
We are His people, and we are called by His name, but we need to be calling on His name just as in the days of Enosh. We need to seek His face and cry out from our deep to His deep (Psalm 42:7). There needs to be a holy urgency that boils up inside of us where we no longer just talk about how bad it is and prophecy about a better day to come, but we turn our hearts to the Lord and we cry out in the spirit “Yahweh, come and heal our land”. That’s not to say that there is anything wrong with prophesying about a better day, there is certainly a place for that, but I wonder how many lives could have been changed if The Church was crying out “Come and heal our land” instead of “Some glad morning when this life is over I’ll fly away”. What about before that “glad morning”? What about the people who may never know that “glad morning” in our land?
It takes action on our part, in the spirit, and in the physical. To quote Isaiah 60:1 again, “Arise, shine; for your light has come! And the glory of the Lord rises on you!” When Isaiah prophesied that some of God’s people probably thought “Uh, what world are you seeing? I don’t see any light”. That is an accurate statement in many ways, but if we aren’t seeing the light then we need to rise up so that the light of Jesus, the glory of God, will rise on us. It’s our action, and our response to the promises of God’s word, that bring the glory of God from the spiritual realm into our world. Just like in the story of Jericho in Joshua 6, it was the glory of God that destroyed the walls that were keeping Israel from their destiny, but it was the shout of the people that activated the Glory of God. God needed to see if the people would believe in His promise and if they would obey his commands, and when they did that, BOOM! The glory fell and so did the walls of Jericho and God’s people walked into their destiny.
What walls are keeping people in your land from their destiny? These are the days of Enosh, will you be one of the people who call on the name of the Lord, on Yahweh, your God? Will you be one of the people who seek His face? Will you be one of the forerunners who begins to march around the walls in your land and lets out a shout in the spirit that the devil can’t quiet. The time is now! Today is the day!
